Whale Attack This was a game I originally wrote around 1982 when as a starry eyed 9 year old I had delusions of starting a software company. My dad helped me in writing this game, principally in helping me understand how to make objects move around the screen by assigning a variable to their position. It is the first game I ever wrote. Whale Attack is a simple game, you are in control of a small rowing boat trying to cross the English channel from Dover to Calais. Move left with '5' and right with '8'. There is a monster whale trying to eat your boat, it will appear below your boat. If it is directly under your boat you must steer away from it or you'll be drowned! The only change I have made from the original 1982 version is that on this 1999 version there is a scoring feature (whereas in my first version the game simply stopped when you died or made it to Calais). I think there was a simpler version for the 1K ZX81 where the whale simply appeared on the same line as your boat, making escape a matter of luck rather than skill but the version here is my final one. I submitted the 1K game to Sinclair Programs but got back a letter saying that it wasn't good enough for publication.
